Asia mostly lower amid worsening global outlook

Asian stock indexes traded mostly lower on Friday following losses in the United States. The worldwide economic downturn is set to deepen as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) warned it will revise the global GDP growth forecast for 2023 down from the current 2.9%. In earnings, South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics announced its operating profit is likely to fall 31.7% in the third quarter.

The Nikkei 225 was down 0.59% at 4:30 am CET, as Hang Seng plunged 1.13% and the S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.58%. The Kospi Composite stood flat at 4:32 am CET. Stock markets in mainland China remain closed.

The dollar traded 0.09% lower against the yen, going for 145.0030 at 4:33 am CET.
