Biden hopes to meet with Putin in June

The United States President Joe Biden expressed during a briefing on Tuesday his willingness to meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during his trip to Europe in June. "That is my hope and expectation. We are working on it," he told the reporters.

Earlier, media reports revealed that Biden spoke to Putin proposing a summit in a third country in the coming months. The White House said the US president "made clear that the United States will act firmly in defense of its national interests in response to Russia’s actions, such as cyber intrusions and election interference".

Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in an interview published by the Financial Times on Tuesday that it would be "beneficial" for the two leaders to meet face to face and that the US is no seeking to escalate the bilateral relations.
