BoE's Pill: Rates likely to remain low even after COVID

Bank of England's (BoE) Chief Economist Huw Pill stated on Thursday that the central bank is expected to keep the interest rates "relatively low" even after the effects of the coronavirus pandemic have receded.

Implementing negative rates is both "feasible" and would likely ease monetary conditions, the official added.

"Current strength of inflation looks set to prove more long-lasting than originally anticipated," the official warned, noting that the "risks to the economic and inflation outlook are again clearly becoming two-sided."
