China cancels probe of sorghum imports from US amid trade talks

The Ministry of Commerce in Beijing said that it canceled an anti-dumping investigation into imports of sorghum from the United States, a grain used for animal food and as an ingredient in alcoholic drinks, saying it is not in the "public interest." China imported more than $1 billion worth of sorghum from America in 2017, and imposed a 176% tariff earlier this year, seen as a response to Washington's 30% import duties on solar panels.

The Chinese delegation led by the Vice Premier Liu He is set to continue bilateral discussions on Friday with the administration of the United States President Donald Trump, the White House said in a statement after the first day of talks closed to the media ended.

Earlier in the day, Trump said that he doubts that an agreement on trade will be reached with China.
