China to issue 'unreliable entities list' soon - report

The Chinese government is planning to soon release an "unreliable entity list," which will include "relevant" American entities, the Global Times reported on Monday citing sources familiar with the matter.

According to the report, Beijing wants to publish the list as soon as possible since it expects the US House to pass legislation condemning China's treatment of the Muslim Uyghur population in the Xinjiang autonomous region, which would likely harm interests of Chinese companies. Last week, China slammed US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for accusing Bejing of human rights abuses in Xinjiang, calling his allegations "lies."

Besides the Xinjiang issue, the tensions between the two countries have also risen recently as a result of the US' decision to adopt a bill backing protesters in Hong Kong. This led to China accusing Washington of meddling in its internal affairs and imposing retaliatory measures. US President Donald Trump noted the Hong Kong bill will not make reaching a trade deal with Beijing easier, but White House adviser Kellyanne Conway insisted a phase one agreement is still possible before the end of the year.
