China's inflation down to 0.8% in August

China's consumer price index (CPI) landed below market estimates in August, despite increasing by 0.8% on an annual basis, according to a report by the country's National Bureau of Statistics, released on Thursday.

The year-on-year number marks a decrease compared to last month's figure of 1%. Meanwhile, consumer prices on a monthly basis landed at 0.1%, dropping by 0.2 percentage points from the figure seen in July.

In the meantime, the country's producer price index (PPI) exceeded expectations, rising by 9.5% compared to the August 2020 figure.
