EIA: US crude stockpiles down by 1.6M barrels

Crude oil inventories in the United States declined by 1.6 million barrels compared to the previous week to amount to 494.4 million barrels in the week ending September 18, marking a lower-than-expected decrease, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in its report on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, crude oil imports averaged 5.2 million barrels per day last week, climbing by 160,000 barrels per day from the week prior.

The country's oil refinery inputs were at 13.4 million barrels per day during the week ending September 18, down by 119,000 barrels per day compared to the previous week’s average. Refineries operated at 74.8% of their capacity in the same period. Gasoline production rose to average 9.3 million barrels per day last week, distillate fuel production increased grew to 4.5 million barrels per day.
