EU countries reach deal on online copyright reform

European Union member countries reached a deal on online copyright reform on Wednesday with the aim of ensuring fair compensation for artists and publishers and leveling the playing fields between big tech companies and publishers, broadcasters and artists.

The proposal still needs to be approved by the European Parliament and the European Commission.

The changes, which were first proposed in 2016, require online platforms to install filters in order to prevent the unauthorized use of copyrighted materials.
