EU leaders congratulate Erdogan on election win
The representatives of the European Union congratulated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his re-election, with the bloc's Foreign Affairs and Security Policy High Representative Josep Borrell describing the relations between Brussels and Ankara as of "strategic importance."
"I look forward to working on this with Turkiye," Borrell tweeted. Earlier, European Council President Charles Michel posted that he "look[s] forward to working with you again to deepen [EU]-[Turkey] relations in the years to come."
Meanwhile, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen tweeted that "[i]t is of strategic importance for both the EU and Turkiye to work on advancing this relationship, for the benefit of our people."
