EU to discuss veto with Hungary, Poland - Merkel

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Thursday that the European Union will continue to try to find a solution to the budget veto Poland and Hungary imposed earlier this week.

Speaking after a European Council meeting, Merkel pointed that the "rule of law" budget requirement presents the biggest obstacle to an agreement, adding that the issue is "very serious," since veto means the budget can't be sent to the European Parliament for a vote.

She also stated that the compromise that had been reached earlier was well balanced, while revealing that Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa called on all sides involved to find a new compromise.
