EU's greenhouse gas emissions at 30-year low

Greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union declined 3.7% compared to the previous year to land at the lowest level in three decades, the European Commission's EU Climate Action Progress Report revealed on Monday.

Commenting on the report, European Green Deal's Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans said that the EU needs "to step up its efforts across all sectors of the economy to reach the common goal of climate neutrality by 2050. The transition is feasible if we stick to our commitment and seize the opportunities of the recovery to reboot our economy in a greener, more resilient way," Timmermans concluded.

Earlier in the day, President of the European Central Bank Christine Lagarde noted that the coronavirus pandemic sped up the changes in the field of green technologies.
