FDA greenlights Pfizer's vaccine for 5-11 year olds
The United States Food and Drug Administration approved on Friday the use of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in children aged between 5 and 11 years, with inoculations expected to start as soon as next week.
However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's advisory committee also has to sign off the approval at its meeting on November 2 before the smaller-dose vaccines are distributed across the United States.
The decision came in as expected, with reports from earlier in the day announcing it. The Pfizer jab is the first vaccine authorized for use in this population.
