Focus 'must' shift to rising solvency problems - BoJ's Wakatabe

Bank of Japan Deputy Governor Masazumi Wakatabe wrote for the Nikkei Asian Review urging policymakers to shift their focus to the potentially rasing solvency problems amid the coronavirus pandemic.

He said the legislators "must increasingly" move away from providing liquidity to the market, as the COVID-19 may cause the bank's equity capital to be less than its assets.

"Central banks must take steps to pre-empt deflation, focus on downside risks to prices for time being," he added.
