France still hopes US tariffs up for discussion

The French government hopes there is still "room for discussion" amid threats that the United States that it will impose tariffs of up to 100% on dozens of French products, including wine, cheese, and beauty products, AFP reported on Tuesday.

"We hope that there is still room for discussion and for consultation and that this is not the end of the story," Cedric O, secretary of state for the digital economy said.

Speaking at the start of the NATO summit in London, US President Donald Trump told reporters he will not tolerate "anyone taking advantage of American companies" referring to France's Digital Services Tax. Meanwhile, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said that the European Union would retaliate if Washington goes ahead with its plans to target French products.
