G7: Russia should cease Ukraine provocations

The Group of Seven (G7) urged Russia on Monday to "cease its provocations and to immediately de-escalate tensions in line with its international obligations" when it came to its activities and the number of troops at the border with Ukraine and in "illegally-annexed" Crimea.

"We reaffirm our unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders," the group's joint statement read. "We call on all sides to engage constructively [...] to confirm and consolidate the ceasefire."

The statement comes after United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned Russia it would face "consequences" if it acted "aggressively" towards Ukraine. The Kremlin responded by describing Washington's warnings as repetitive and thus weaker.
