German consumer prices unchanged in September

Consumer prices in Germany were unchanged on a monthly basis in September, while jumping 1.2% annually, the country's statistical office Destatis said on Friday. In August, the year-on-year increase was 1.4%.

The largest month-on-month increases were observed with clothing and footwear, 7.2% and 2.7%, respectively. Meanwhile, the annual jump was led by higher district heating and natural gas prices, up by 4.7% each, as well as electricity and energy, rising 3.9% and 0.6%, respectively. Excluding energy prices, annual inflation was 1.4%. This was offset by a downfall in heating oil and motor fuels prices, 10.5% and 6.7% lower.

The services sector raised prices by 1.8% on an annual basis, as goods added only 0.6%. Food was 1.3% more expensive in September compared with the same month in 2018, the report showed.
