Germany to allow Huawei's 5G network tech - report

The German government will allow Chinese technology giant Huawei to sell its 5G network equipment in the country, Handelsblatt reported on Monday, citing a draft proposal on telecommunications network security. An initial document is believed to have contained a ban on Huawei's technology, but sources from the government claimed Chancellor Angela Merkel was worried about its implications to Germany's relations with China and had asked for it to be removed.

It was said that Merkel's coalition partners were against the decision and wanted to ban Huawei's 5G networks in Germany.

The Chinese tech giant has been blacklisted in the United States over national security concerns, even though the company denies any connections to the government in Beijing. Germany's decision, which is expected to be officially announced by the end of the week, comes after the European Union completed a report on 5G network risks.
