Goldman hires Amazon, Verizon senior execs

The Goldman Sachs Group Inc. announced Thursday it has hired Amazon Web Services' (AWS) senior executive to replace departing tech chief Elisha Wiesel. Marco Argenti, who served as vice president of technology at AWS since 2013, is being appointed as a co-chief information officer, the banking giant said.

Additionally, Goldman declared it hired a senior Verizon executive, Atte Lahtiranta, as its new chief technology officer, replacing John Madsen who is leaving the firm.

"Our ability to attract and enable world-class talent is critical to the execution of our client-led strategy, which is focused on growing our franchise as well as new businesses. With the excellent work already underway across the organization, the firm will benefit significantly from the considerable experience and best practices that both Marco and Atte bring in cloud computing and core engineering," Goldman CEO David Solomon said in the press release.
