Hammond to resign if Johnson becomes PM

The United Kingdom's Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond said that he will resign if Boris Johnson becomes the country's next prime minister.

Speaking to the BBC, Hammond said that he did not believe that he would be sacked as he would resign prior to that. He clarified that he would resign on Wednesday to current PM Theresa May after the session of the Prime Minister's Questions concludes but before May herself resigns. Hammond said that a no-deal Brexit, which Johnson has promised to deliver if so required by October 31, was "not something I could ever sign up to."

The news comes after reports on Friday hinted at the possibility of three ministers resigning if Johnson were to be elected. One of the ministers, Justice Secretary David Gauke, confirmed earlier in the day that he would likewise quit if Johnson was successful.
