Hunt: UK must leave EU quickly and cleanly

United Kingdom Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt told reporters on Thursday that Britain should leave the European Union as soon as possible in an orderly fashion. "We have to leave quickly, we have to leave cleanly," he stressed.

However, Hunt pointed out that if the UK was forced to choose between leaving the bloc without an agreement or canceling Brexit and staying in the EU, he noted that a no-deal scenario would be a better option. The British top diplomat warned that disregarding the wishes of the British people by not honoring the 2016 referendum would have stronger negative consequences than crashing out of the bloc without a deal.

The EU has extended the UK's deadline for exiting the bloc until October at the latest, but stressed a no-deal Brexit may still happen if Britain refuses to take part in European parliamentary elections. Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Theresa May stressed that the country will be able to leave the EU before June if Parliament passes a deal in time. Earlier today, UK Cabinet Minister David Lidington noted the timing of the next vote on the withdrawal agreement will depend on the progress the government makes in negotiations with Labour.
