Israel invites journalists from Arab countries for visit

Israel will host six journalists from Arab countries later in the week, the country's foreign ministry said on Sunday.

The journalists will visit a number of sites such as Jerusalem's Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial, parliament and holy sites, among others. The ministry stated that the aim of the visit was to expose the journalists, "some of whom come from countries that do not have diplomatic relations with Israel," to the latter's position on diplomatic and geopolitical issues. The journalists will come from countries including, for the first time, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

The news comes amid a thaw in Middle Eastern tensions in recent weeks. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said on Thursday that he met his Bahraini counterpart for the first time in public during a visit to Washington last week. He also visited Abu Dhabi for a United Nations climate conference at the beginning of the month, where he met Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and an unnamed "high-ranking UAE official."
