J&J to buy Auris Health for $3.4B

Manufacturer of medical robotics Auris Health Inc. announced on Wednesday it agreed with Johnson & Johnson to be bought for approximately $3.4 billion in cash. An additional sum of up to $2.35 billion may be payable by J&J if and upon reaching predetermined goals.

According to the statement, the acquisition will compliment J&J's previous acquisition of an orthopedics​ robotic tech business and the continued development of the company's Verb Surgical Platform through a partnership with Verily.

"We believe the combination of best-in-class robotics, advanced instrumentation and unparalleled end-to-end connectivity will make a meaningful difference in patient outcomes," Ashley McEvoy, executive VP of J&J said, adding this and the previous acquisitions aim is to "create the foundation of a comprehensive digital ecosystem to help support the surgeon and patient before, during and after surgery."
