Japan emergency state to end on September 30 - Suga

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga announced on Tuesday the government will lift the state of emergency imposed amid new spikes in infections from COVID-19 in all of the country's 47 prefectures on September 30.

"We will enhance our response to the spread of infections through vaccinations and improvements to healthcare, and work on balancing antivirus measures with getting life back to normal," Suga stated.

Meanwhile, Shigeru Omi, the vice-chair of the government's team of experts on COVID-19, warned that "lifting of the emergency doesn't mean we are 100% free. The government should send a clear message to the people that we can only relax gradually."
