Japanese company to free more space in 5G phones

Murata Manufacturing, a Japanese company supplying Apple and Huawei, says it has developed a smaller version of mainstay capacitors, a device used to regulate power usage, Nikkei Asian Review reported on Wednesday.

The company claims it has managed to shrink the capacitors to one-fifth of the current size by perfecting the ceramic powder which serves as the base material. Thanks to the breakthrough, more space will be left for bigger batteries and additional parts needed in the handsets of the latest generation.

The Kyoto-based company, which holds 40% of the global market share of capacitor production, said it would start mass-producing the newly designed devices in spring 2020.
