Johnson appoints cabinet ahead of resignation

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson replaced on Thursday the cabinet members who have left their posts in protest over his recent actions. Johnson himself is expected to deliver a resignation address at 2 pm CET, although it is not yet clear whether he will stay on as caretaker prime minister until a general election can be called in the fall.

Former Policing Minister Kit Malthouse will take over as chancellor of the Duchy, the most senior ministerial position after the prime minister. James Cleverly has been appointed as the education secretary, the third change in the post since Monday, while Greg Clark will replace Michael Gove as housing and "leveling up" secretary.
