Le Maire: Huawei is welcome in France

France's Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said on Friday that Chinese handset maker Huawei Technologies is welcome to continue investing in his country. The statement comes amid reports of Huawei's technological equipment, especially the one related to communications, is being suspected of carrying national security risks by a number of countries, including Japan, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and the latest, Belgium.

After a meeting with Chinese Vice Premier Hu Chunhua, Le Maire said that Huawei is "a company that plays an important role in France, that invests in France and these investments are welcome." Still, he didn't leave out the option that some of Huawei's moves can be blocked if they "touch on national sovereignty or sensitive technologies."

Huawei is also in the international spotlight after its Chief Financial Officer Meng Wanzhou got arrested by Canadian authorities on unspecified charges from the US, allegedly relating to possible Iran sanctions violations.
