Lloyd's of London raises Gulf insurance risks

Insurance market Lloyd's of London widened its list of areas in and around the Persian Gulf that it said posed an "enhanced risk for mariner insurers," AFP reported on Thursday.

The insurer said that Oman, a part of the Gulf of Oman, the United Arab Emirates as well as the Persian Gulf itself had been added to its list. It also expanded the existing areas in Saudi Arabia. The news comes after a series of blasts over the weekend damaged four ships in the UAE's Indian Ocean port of Fujairah, for which both Iran and Israel have been blamed.

It also comes at time of growing tensions between Iran and the United States, both of which have in the last few days made increasingly belligerent statements. However, United States President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he hoped that the two countries would not end up going to war against one another.
