Canada's dance with China

Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau is scheduled to visit People's Republic of China from August 30 in an attempt to improve bilateral relations.

One-week long visit from August 30 to September 6, will include visits to Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Hangzhou for the G20 leaders' summit. Justin Trudeau will push for bilateral free trade deal, call businesspeople to invest in Canada, and invite tourists to visit the country.

He will also try to defuse tension, which increased with detention of Canadian citizen Kevin Garratt in 2014 on espionage charges, as he used to run a coffee shop near the border with North Korea. Garratt is detained without proper evidence, argues Canada.

Justin Trudeau is an avid user of social networks, with a Weibo account and is expected to interact with citizens and make selfies with them during the visit. He will almost certainly try to act as a bridge with the United States, upgrading Canada's relations China, which were incidentally started by his father, former prime minister Pierre Trudeau, who is still highly regarded in China.
