Europe closes mixed ahead of Christmas break

Markets in Europe closed mixed as investors prepared for the Christmas holidays break. London's FTSE 100 closed almost flat earlier in the day after a shortened session amid the holiday season.

The DAX edged down 0.05%. Commerzbank was the worst performer as its shares declined 1.24%.

The CAC 40 ended the day up 0.10%. Nokia recorded the largest gains, jumping 3.51%.

In Italy, the FTSE MIB rose 1.05% with Telecom Italia, surging 4.45%, leading the gains.

The euro increased 0.15% against the dollar to go for $1.0450 at 5:28 p.m. CET and it was up 0.48% compared to the British pound, trading at €1.1718 at 5:28 p.m. CET. The euro dipped 0.12% against the yen to change hands for ¥122.555 at 5:29 p.m. CET.
