FTSE 100 jumps over record closing high

London’s FTSE 100 surpassed on Wednesday its record closing high of 7103.98 points which was reached in April 2015. However, the index remained below its all-time intraday high of 7128 points achieved in October this year.

During a thin volume session due to the holiday season, the FTSE 100 rose to a daily high of 1,106.60 points. The index gained 0.53% at 2:03 p.m. CET.

The mining sector led the gains as Fresnillo soared 4.59%, BHP Billiton surged 4.25% at 2:17 p.m. CET and Anglo American jumped 4.09% at 2:19 p.m. CET. Rio Tinto, Randgold Resources, Polymetal International and Glencore climbed over 3%.

Meanwhile, Germany’s DAX was almost flat, down 0.01% at 2:21 p.m. CET and France’s CAC 40 edged down 0.03% at 2:22 p.m. CET.
