Carney: Sterling markets not as calm as others

Volatility in capital markets is reduced due to a range of influences, including the cyclical factor and broad-based acceleration in the global economy, without inflation pressures, Mark Carney said on Thursday. The governor of the Bank of England also stressed the core of the financial system has shown to be resilient, and noted policymakers have been contributing to stability with the stress test system. Still, he underscored, in the markets tied to sterling, volatility has been closer to average in historic terms. There are still potential triggers that can change the situation at some point, Carney added.

The central bank's Monetary Policy Committee earlier kept its measures unchanged and the benchmark rate of interest was held at 0.25%. The pound fell 0.63% against the dollar, 0.82% compared to the yen and 0.55% relative to the franc. The euro strengthened 0.4% versus sterling.
