ECB to reportedly turn hawkish in July

Unnamed sources cited by Der Spiegel on Friday said the European Central Bank plans to signal a shift in strategy in July. Its officials will reportedly start to highlight the progress achieved in fighting deflation as well as the decline in risks of volatility. The article adds the central monetary institution of the Eurozone may reveal a plan for unwinding asset purchases, scheduled to last until the end of the year at a pace of €60 per month.

The people familiar with the matter told the German newspaper the scheme may be weakened until late 2018, when the first increase in rates of interest is possible. The euro strengthened 0.55% against the dollar and 0.67% versus the pound.
