US government bonds trade mostly higher

United States government bonds were mostly higher on Tuesday following remarks from the Federal Reserve Governor Jerome Powell, who spoke earlier today on regulatory reform. The central banker avoided questions regarding his interest in succeeding Janet Yellen as the Fed chair after her term expires on February 3, 2018.

The yield on 10-year Treasuries fell 1.07 basis points to 2.3301% at 7:08 pm CET, while the yield on two-year bonds eased 1.18 basis points to 1.471%. The yield on 30-year debt increased 0.08 basis points to 2.8744% at the same time.

In Europe, the yield on 10-year German Bunds, a benchmark for the euro area, rose 1.2 basis points to 0.463%, whereas the yield on 10-year British gilts grew 2.5 basis points to 1.353%. Bond yields move in the opposite direction relative to prices.
