Europe trades higher after gains in Asian session

Major markets in Europe were in the green in the early moments of the trading session on Friday as investors looked at strong gains in the Asia-Pacific markets. Market watchers digested news on a possible breakthrough in trade talks between the United States and China. Meanwhile, on the earnings front, corporate releases are scheduled to be issued by Exxon Mobile, Chevron and the Alibaba Group in the afternoon.

The FTSE 100 rose 0.77% at 9:15 am CET. Ashtead Group, Melrose Industries and Sage Group were the biggest winners, rising 4.67%, 4.23% and 3.82%, respectively. The CAC 40 traded 1.27% higher at the same time. Kering rose 6.52% following share buyback announcement. The DAX increased 1.39% at 9:16 am CET, with Volkswagen jumping 4.12%. The Euro Stoxx 50 added 1.04% at 9:17 am CET, with the auto industry leading the gains.

The euro gained 0.26% against the greenback, to go for 1.1438 at 9:17 am CET.
