US probes Huawei for alleged trade secret theft

United States Federal prosecutors are probing Chinese tech giant Huawei Technologies Co. for alleged theft of trade secrets from its American partners, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing sources familiar with the matter. According to the report, Huawei is suspected of stealing technology from T-Mobile's Tap-Happy robotic device.

The sources noted that the investigation is advancing fast and that the Chinese company could face an indictment in a near future. Both the Department of Justice and Huwaei have failed to provide any comment on the matter so far.

The report of a probe comes amid the ongoing tensions between the US and China as the issues of intellectual property protection remain among the main topics of discussion in trade negotiations between the two sides. Meanwhile, the US slammed China for sentencing a Canadian national to death, claiming the decision was "politically motivated" as the diplomatic feud between Ottawa and Beijing goes on after the arrest the of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou in Canada last month.
