Pelosi, Schumer urge Mueller to testify before Congress

Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer issued a joint statement on Thursday urging special counsel Robert Mueller to publicly testify before both chambers of Congress "as soon as possible" in order to "begin restoring public trust" in the handling of the Russia investigation.

The Democrat leaders argued that Attorney General William Barr's "regrettably partisan handling of the Mueller report" and his "indefensible" plan to schedule a press conference before the public release of Mueller's report have resulted "in a crisis of confidence in his independence and impartiality."

Earlier, the Democrats called on Barr to cancel the "unnecessary and inappropriate" press conference scheduled ahead of the release of the Russia probe report later today. Neither Mueller nor members of his team are planned to attend the conference.
