Toshiba halts some shipments to Huawei

Japanese conglomerate Toshiba Corporation confirmed on Thursday that it is suspending semiconductor shipments to Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., Kyodo News reported. In order to comply with the earlier Washington's ban on the Chinese company, Toshiba decided to halt the shipments to be able to check if they contained any parts made in the United States, the report indicated.

Toshiba's decision comes only hours after Japanese electronics maker Panasonic said it is suspending all business transactions with Huawei after the US Commerce Department blacklisted the Chinese telecommunications giant.

Meanwhile in Europe, British mobile carrier Vodafone decided to halt its purchases of the Chinese company's 5G smartphones, citing possible future uncertainties related to the company. Additionally, UK-based semiconductor manufacturer Arm Holdings also stopped all operations and contracts with Hauwei after its parent company SoftBank decided to indefinitely postpone sales of new Huawei smartphones.
