Chinese economy doing well despite trade war - BHP CEO

The Chinese economy is performing "quite well at the moment," despite trade frictions with the United States, chief executive officer of Australian mining company BHP Billiton, Andrew Mackenzie (pictured), told the Nikkei Asian Review.

In an article published on Saturday, the executive explained that BHP, as the world's largest miner, relies heavily on exports to Asia, especially China. "We are not really affected directly by the drop in trade between China and the United States," he noted.

China's steel sector is reaching record output, partly due to the government's focus on investing in infrastructure, Mackenzie added.
