Trump opposed advisers on Iran strikes - report

United States President Donald Trump decision not to strike Iran was made in opposition to advice from his national security aides, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday. Trump told a "confidant" that "these people want to push us into a war, and it's so disgusting," arguing that the US does not "need any more wars."

Trump also allegedly considered that the number of potential casualties in a strike on Iran would have a stronger impact on domestic voters than the cost of the US drone Tehran shot down earlier this week. "He noted to confidants that each one of those Iranians had families, which would mean that hundreds more would be affected," the report stated. Meanwhile, the president promised "a lot more" new sanctions against the Iranian government which should be unveiled on Monday.
