Europe opens lower as recession fears resurface

European markets opened in negative territory on Thursday as recession fears sparked by the brief yield curve inversion in US bond markets which occurred for the second time in a week.

The inversion was preceded by the release of the Fed's minutes from its July meeting when officials cut rates for the first time in a decade. Later in the day, the European Central Bank will release its monetary policy meeting account.

Over in Italy, President Sergio Mattarella will meet with the country's main party leaders in hopes of forming a new coalition government after the previous one collapsed.

The DAX fell 0.43% in the first moments of trading, led lower by Infineon. In Paris, the CAC 40 moved down 0.38% as ArcelorMittal led the losses. The FTSE 100 lost 0.37%; Antofagasta was the worst performer.
