Johnson to take no-deal Brexit question to Supreme Court

United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson wants to ask the British Supreme Court to rule on parts of the Benn Act which force him to write a letter to the European Union and seek a Brexit delay if a deal acceptable to the UK Parliament is not reached between London and Brussels by October 19, the Daily Telegraph said in a report, citing a senior UK government source.

Johnson, who insists he will get the UK out of the EU on October 31, particularly wants to focus on the part of the Benn Act that insists he must write a letter and ask for a Brexit delay. If the UK government goes through with the case, Johnson could appear in court himself.

Last week, anti-Brexit campaigners in Scotland requested that the Court of Session in Edinburgh issues an injunction that would force Johnson to ask for Brexit to be delayed in case his new deal doesn't pass Parliament by October 19. The ruling in Scotland is due on Monday.
