NY AG: Trump paid $2M for misused charity funds

New York Attorney General Letitia James announced in a statement on Tuesday that United States President Donald Trump paid court-ordered $2 million to eight different charities, or $250,000 each, for "misusing charitable funds" of the Trump Foundation "for his own political gain".

"Charities are not a means to an end, which is why these damages speak to the president's abuse of power and represent a victory for not-for-profits that follow the law," James said in the statement. The eight charities also got an equal amount of $1,797,598.30 which were in the bank account of the foundation, along with an $11,525 the foundation got at a charity gala, bringing the total each of them received to $476,140.41.

In 2018, the American president was sued by former New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood over violations of laws regarding non-profit and charity organizations in the Trump Foundation during a 10-year period. The foundation was dissolved in December last year, while Trump rejected the claims against him at the time.
