Europe opens lower amid German data

Equities on major European stock markets opened lower on Friday after Germany's Federal Statistical Office Destatis reported a decrease in the country's industrial production and trade surplus. Meanwhile, Credit Suisse CEO Tidjane Thiam announced his resignation from the position, effective February 14.

In China, health authorities reported that the coronavirus death toll in the country reached 638.

The DAX was 0.37% lower at 9:03 am CET. Lufthansa led the losses, declining by 1.53% at 9:09 am CET.

London's FTSE 100 was 0.15% down at 9:00 am CET as Burberry dropped 3.17% one minute later.

The CAC 40 lost 0.15% at 9:01 am CET. Kering was the worst performer, decreasing by 1.99% at 9:03 am CET.

The euro declined by 0.10% compared to the dollar at 9:04 am CET, trading at 1.09675. The British pound gained 0.07% against the American currency, going for 1.29355 at the same time.
