CDC confirms first COVID-19 case of unknown origin

The Centers for Disease Control announced on Wednesday that it registered the first case of the coronavirus in the United States in a person who has neither had any contact with the infected nor has traveled recently, signaling a potential start of the virus spreading in the US.

"The individual had no known exposure to the virus through travel or close contact with a known infected individual," the agency said in a statement, noting that the person in question is a resident of California.

Earlier remarks from US President Donald Trump sought to assure the public that the risk of the deadly virus epidemic in the US remains low, stressing the high level of country-wide preparedness for an outbreak.
