Trump, Putin discuss COVID-19, arms control in phone call

United States President Donald Trump and his Russian counteprart Vladimir Putin spoke over the phone on Thursday to mark the anniversary of the World War II victory day, the White House said.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Judd Deere noted the two leaders discussed "progress on defeating the coronavirus pandemic" and added that Trump offered "to provide assistance to any country in need, including Russia."

Trump and Putin also talked about arms control and agreed to hold further discussions in order to avoid a "costly arms race" between the US, Russia and China.
