Apple approves paid email app Hey email

Apple Inc. stated on Monday it has approved a software update for Basecamp, the developers of paid email app Hey email. The decision came after Basecamp stated that the rules for Apple’s App Store were unfair.

Apple said it will remove Basecamp’s app if the company doesn’t use the company’s in-app purchase method to give iPhone users an option to subscribe to this service. However, Apple takes a 30% cut during the first year if that method is used.

A new version of Basecamp’s app submitted today gives a free option inside the iOS app that includes a temporary email address. However, after two weeks, users still need a Hey subscription in-app version that is still not approved by Apple.
