New unification minister nominated in S. Korea

South Korea's President Moon Jae-in nominated Member of the National Assembly Lee In-young as the country's new unification minister, presidential spokesman Kang Min-seok revealed on Friday.

The ministry is in charge of handling relations with North Korea. The previous minister, Kim Yeon-chul, resigned in mid-May as the relationship between the two countries deteriorated after Pyongyang destroyed the inter-Korean liaison office in the North Korean border town of Kaesong.

In addition, Moon named Director of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) Suh Hoon as the new Director of the National Security Office and former minister Park Jie-won as the new head of the NIS.
