Texas reports record high COVID-19 infections

Texas recorded a record-high number of COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, with 10,028 new confirmed in the past 24 hours taking its total to 210,585, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.

The federal-state started seeing an increase in numbers after it began lifting its coronavirus containment measures, prompting Governor Greg Abbott to issue an executive order making wearing masks mandatory.

Fears over a potential second wave of the pandemic spread across the US after the country saw a spike in daily infections, which President Donald Trump attributed to "massive" testing, noting the number of virus-related deaths remains low.
