Wall Street opens lower on earnings, data

Major stock markets in the United States opened lower on Tuesday after companies such as Delta Air Lines, Wells Fargo, and Citigroup reported losses in their second-quarter revenues. Meanwhile, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) revealed the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in June increased by 0.6% year-on-year.

The Dow Jones Industrial Index traded 0.14% lower at the opening bell as The Walt Disney Company decreased by 1.22%. The Nasdaq 100 fell by 0.88% with Ross Stores declining by 2.37%. The S&P 500 lost 0.43% as Mohawk Industries Inc. dropped by 9.58%.

The euro rose by 0.21% compared to the dollar, with the exchange rate of 1.13680 at 9:27 am ET.
