California reports record 219 daily COVID-19 deaths

The number of deaths caused by coronavirus surged by 219 over the past 24 hours in California, marking a record-high in daily fatalities from the virus since the pandemic began, the state's Department of Public Health unveiled on Saturday. The total death toll stood at 9,224 statewide.

Meanwhile, California remained the state with the largest number of confirmed infections in the United States with 500,130, increasing by 6,542 from the previous day's figure.
